While the Library building itself remains closed to the public, Library staff are happy to offer Curbside Holds Pickup Service for Stickney-Forest View Public Library District cardholders beginning June 8th. Patrons with different home libraries should refer to them for all services.

What is Curbside Hold Pickup?

Stickney-Forest View Public Library District cardholders can place holds on items that our library owns. We will gather the items as they become available and call, text, or email to arrange for a Curbside Pickup. Limit one pickup per person per week. Maximum of 25 items per checkout. (Holds on items owned by other libraries will be suspended until interlibrary loan deliveries resume).


Who can place holds?

Stickney-Forest View Public Library District cardholders with fines under $100.

If your card was set to expire between January & June 2020, it has been automatically renewed. Unfortunately we cannot accept cards from other libraries or temporary digital cards at this time.

What items can I get?

Books, audiobooks, magazines, DVDs, BluRays, CDs, video games, and WiFi hotspots that are owned by the Stickney-Forest View Public Library District.  

Items from other libraries are currently unavailable.


How long will it take?

If an item is available, you should receive notification that it’s ready for pickup in 24-48 hours.

Holds may take longer than usual due to items being quarantined upon return.

**Please bring your library card and cell phone with you. If you do not have a cell phone, please call ahead and schedule a time to pick up your items.**

By car: Find a marked parking space in the west parking lot (via the alley) and follow the instructions posted there. If full, please wait in a spot on 43rd Street.

By bike or foot: Go inside the vestibule at our 43rd St. Entrance and follow the instructions posted there. 

To use the Curbside Communicator tool, download the SWAN Mobile App available for Apple and Android devices.

**Please make sure you wear a mask as required.**

Please be respectful of our staff safety. Remain in your vehicle with windows rolled up. Pop your trunk, if applicable. Staff cannot take your returns (with the one exception being hotspot devices) during Curbside Service, so please use our Book Drops. Do not approach staff members when they drop off your items and please call later with any questions about your account or items. Thank you.

What are the hours for Curbside Holds Pickup Service?

Curbside hours are: 
- Mondays - Thursdays   1 - 7pm
- Fridays - Saturdays   1 - 5pm 
(hours subject to change)

Regardless of hours, you may only pick up holds once you have been notified that your material is ready for pickup. Once notified, you will have one week (7 calendar days) to come pick up your hold(s), then it will go back on the shelf or to the next patron on the hold list. You may ask staff to re-request any missed item(s).


How do I place holds on materials?

At this time, the best way for you to request materials is by using the SWAN Online Catalog or the SWAN Mobile App. If someone does not have access to a computer they can still call the library at (708) 749-1050, x-100 to request materials. Remember that at this time we are only offering curbside service for SFVPLD card holders, and you can only request items in the SFVPLD collection. The interlibrary loan delivery service is not yet back in service. This SWAN Library Services tutorial video will show you how you can place a hold using the online catalog.


How long can I keep items once I’ve checked them out?

Checkouts are 3 weeks, regardless of the type of item. You can have up to 2 automatic renewals as long as there are no holds on the item.


How do I return items once I’m done?

Except for hotspots and youth science kits, please drop materials into our book drops located at the 43rd Street and Oak Park Avenue entrances. Please return hotspots and youth science kits in the designated bin in the 43rd St. Entrance's vestibule during Curbside hours (Monday - Thursday 1 - 7pm; Friday - Saturday 1 - 5pm).

Staff will not accept returns from cars or walk-ups.

Note: Due to our quarantine process, expect that returned items may remain on your library card for up to 10 days before getting checked in. Material will be checked in fine free during our Curbside Holds Pickup Services phase!

Unfortunately, we are not able to issue new cards at this time.

What if my library card is expired?

If your card was set to expire earlier this year, it has been automatically renewed. If your card expired in 2019 or before, unfortunately you will not be able to use the Curbside Holds Pickup Service.

However, if you live in Stickney, Forest View, or Central Stickney and you are over 13 years old, you can apply for a temporary digital card to access our eBooks, downloadable audiobooks, streaming video, and more. Just click here to sign up.


What if my library card is blocked due to fines?

You can pay your fines online through the SWAN Online Catalog. Just log in with your library card number and PIN.


When can we go back inside the building?

We don’t have a date just yet. The Library continues to monitor recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), and local health authorities, in addition to the State of Illinois for guidance in our next steps and when we can introduce the next phase in our reopening plan.

But in addition to our new Curbside Holds Pickup service, we continue to offer virtual services, answering your questions via phone and emailvirtual programs, access to eBooks, streaming content & other digital resources, as well as our upcoming Summer Reading Program

Curbside Printing Pickup
Need something printed out while the Library is still closed to the public? We are now offering curbside pickup of print jobs, with a few necessary requirements to provide for the safety of our staff.

  • You have to email the document, we can’t accept a flash drive or disc.
  • We have to apply the cost of printing to your account, we can’t accept cash.
  • You have to pick up your printouts using our curbside pickup service.
